Wednesday Morning Skate: NHL Snooze
The Chicago Blackhawks are acting suspicious with regards to Martin Havlat’s injury status. I have a feeling it has something to do with his balls, or lack thereof.
Gary Roberts was a good fucking hockey player. He’s finished with chin-ups.
It wasn’t pretty, but Bob Gainey got a win in his first game as coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Saku Koivu deflected a Mathieu Schneider shot on the power-play to down Edmonton 4-3 in OT. Koivu also scored the game-tying goal, and Schneider may have been the best (preemptive) trade deadline move by any team.
Steve Mason stopped 35 shots for his 9th shutout. I’m not surprised, are you surprised?
The game’s greatest asshole is closer to losing one of his records. Martin Brodeur is only two wins shy of Patrick Roy’s career mark of 551.
George Laraque is cheesed with all this talk about “staged” fights. He has a right to be pissed, those are the best fights. A number of goons took to dropping the mitts last night, hopefully there will be a few more nights like this before they’re all out of work. I’m no war-monger, but the Toronto Maple Leafs could have used a legitimate bomber like Wade Belak this season. Check’em (Thanks Hockeyfights.com):
