Although the Columbus Blue Jackets ravaged the Detroit Red Wings by a final score of 8-2 on Saturday night, super-rookie Steve Mason still had to stop 44 shots.  Mason improved to 26-16-3 on the season, and still leads the league with eight shutouts.  No goalie should have to make 44 saves on a nightly basis, but when your team backs you up with eight goals then it ain’t so bad.  Maybe Detroit could use a new goaltender, and not one of the Bob Essensa mould.

Rick Nash was pretty deadly in the victory last night as he sniped a hat-trick, including two unassisted goals and a shorthander.  Zoinks!  This team is easily one of the biggest surprises in the NHL this season.
