Rangers Hope for Avery The Agitator, Not The Entertainer
According to most accounts, Sean Avery is scheduled to clear waivers today. The worst kept secret around the NHL is that Avery will be rejoining the New York Rangers in hopes of getting his NHL career back on track. Not that it was ever clearly on track in the first place, but he was once, not that long ago, a decent player who made his presence felt on the ice rather than run his mouth off of it.
TSN.ca has reported that Avery, in all likelihood, will be reporting to the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack by Tuesday at the earliest. Dallas does not have an AHL affiliate club, and the plan is for Avery to get back on the ice as soon as possible. There is currently no timetable or estimated date for Avery’s return to the NHL. Avery spent a season and a half with the Rangers, where the club held a 50-23-13 record with him in the lineup, and went 24-35-9 without him. Avery managed to skate in only 23 games of a four-year $15.5 million deal he signed with the Dallas Stars this past off-season. Stars’ co-GM Les Jackson reiterated his club’s stance on not allowing Avery back on their team this past weekend.
Even the semi-casual hockey fan caught the headlines earlier this season when Avery made derogatory remarks. His words were aimed at NHL players currently dating his ex-girlfriends which Sean made perfectly clear, he had a piece of first. This shit is just too good to keep out of the game.
The Rangers are in action tonight as they roll into New Jersey to face the Devils. Only one other game on the schedule for tonight as the struggling Montreal Canadiens face the Flames in Calgary.
